Borghese Gallery

The Borghese Gallery is hosted in a 17th century neo-classical palace. This mansion was purpose-built by Cardinal Scipione to keep his "rather extensive" art collection. This has been described as the "Queen of Private Collections" because it features many unique pieces by Bernini, Caravaggio, Botticelli, and Rubens. Highlights include a daring nude sculpture of Paolina Borghese, Napoleone's sister sculpted in 1808 by neoclassic artist Antonio Canova.
